Bad Boy Chiller Crew became one of the UK’s most talked-about music acts, turning their Bradford roots, outrageous humour and high-energy music into chart success and major festival appearances. But behind the scenes, the reality was far darker than fans could have imagined.

In an exclusive interview on The Terry Stone Connection, former Bad Boy Chiller Crew member Gareth opens up about his rise to fame, his devastating battle with ketamine addiction and the decision to walk away from the group to save his own life.

After years of drug abuse, serious health complications and several attempts to get clean, Gareth reveals how rehabilitation gave him a second chance.

How Bad Boy Chiller Crew Went From Bradford to Glastonbury

Before the chart success and sold-out shows, Bad Boy Chiller Crew were simply a group of mates making comedy videos in Bradford.

Gareth had been working as a chef before moving into DJing, playing speed garage, house and bassline music. After connecting with Kane and the other members, their shared sense of humour quickly developed into something bigger.

Initially, the group focused on funny videos and parody songs. However, their growing online following eventually led them towards producing serious music.

Their breakthrough track, 450, helped propel them into the spotlight, attracting attention across the music industry.

Suddenly, three lads who had once been scraping together enough money for a takeaway were signing record deals worth seven figures and performing alongside some of the UK’s biggest artists.

Bad Boy Chiller Crew went on to perform at Glastonbury, Leeds Festival and Parklife, with Gareth recalling chart battles involving Adele and Ed Sheeran.

But their rapid rise brought problems nobody was prepared for.

The Dark Reality Behind Bad Boy Chiller Crew’s Fame

While fans saw the expensive clothes, luxury accommodation and wild performances, Gareth describes a completely different reality.

Despite appearing to live like millionaires, the group faced financial pressures, complicated record contracts and mounting expenses.

Gareth explains that their lifestyle quickly spiralled out of control, with excessive drinking, drug use and destructive behaviour becoming part of their everyday routine.

He even claims the group were banned from major hotel chains and blacklisted from festivals following incidents during their career.

Their behaviour eventually became a serious problem for the people working around them.

Looking back, Gareth admits they often failed to appreciate their achievements because they were constantly intoxicated.

The lifestyle that had helped build their rebellious image was gradually destroying them.

Gareth’s Ketamine Addiction and £30,000 Balloon Spending

One of the most shocking revelations in Gareth’s interview is the extent of the group’s drug use.

He recalls spending approximately £30,000 on nitrous oxide balloons in a single month between three members.

However, Gareth’s biggest personal struggle was with ketamine.

He reveals that he first began taking drugs as a teenager and later developed a serious ketamine dependency following the murder of a close friend.

What initially felt like an escape from grief quickly became an addiction he could no longer control.

As Bad Boy Chiller Crew became increasingly successful, Gareth’s drug use worsened.

He describes taking ketamine daily, becoming isolated and eventually struggling with basic everyday activities.

The consequences were devastating.

Two Bladder Operations and a Warning He Could Die

Gareth reveals that his prolonged ketamine addiction caused severe damage to his bladder, requiring two operations.

At his lowest point, he was experiencing unbearable abdominal pain, wearing incontinence pads and spending hours in extremely hot baths attempting to ease his symptoms.

His physical health deteriorated so severely that he struggled to leave the house or spend meaningful time with his family.

He also describes using other substances and painkillers as his addiction intensified.

During one hospital visit, Gareth recalls being told that continuing his drug use could cost him his life.

His family were terrified.

His wife feared finding him dead, while his parents struggled to cope with watching his condition worsen.

For Gareth, the situation had become impossible to ignore.

Why Gareth Went to Rehab on Christmas Eve

After previous attempts to overcome his addiction had failed, Gareth knew he needed more intensive treatment.

He made the difficult decision to enter rehabilitation over Christmas, leaving his children behind while he focused on recovery.

He describes the moment as one of the hardest experiences of his life.

His treatment programme in Portugal introduced a strict daily routine, structured activities and opportunities to understand the underlying causes of his addiction.

Although he initially expected the experience to feel like a relaxing getaway, the reality was very different.

The discipline ultimately helped him rebuild his life.

During the interview, Gareth reveals he had reached nine months clean, describing rehabilitation as one of the best decisions he had ever made.

Why Gareth Quit Bad Boy Chiller Crew

Recovery also forced Gareth to make another difficult decision: leaving Bad Boy Chiller Crew.

After temporarily returning to Bradford for a scheduled performance, he experienced an overwhelming anxiety attack on stage.

Without drugs or alcohol, the experience felt completely different.

He realised that the lifestyle surrounding the group was no longer compatible with the person he wanted to become.

Although leaving created tension between the members, Gareth explains that he still cares deeply about Kane and Clive.

He remains grateful for everything they achieved together and doesn’t completely rule out a reunion in the future.

For now, however, his health and family come first.

Life After Fame: Gareth Returns to Selling Ice Cream

Perhaps the most unexpected part of Gareth’s story is how he found happiness after leaving the music industry.

Rather than chasing another record deal, he returned to working in an ice cream van in Bradford.

It was a job he had connections to before becoming famous, and one that brought back positive memories of his younger years.

Despite receiving criticism from people questioning why a former music star would return to ordinary work, Gareth says the experience gave him something fame never could.

Peace.

He also reveals that his family are preparing to welcome another child, giving him even more motivation to remain focused on recovery.

Gareth’s Brain Aneurysm Diagnosis and Future Plans

Gareth also shares another unexpected setback.

After training for a Misfits Boxing appearance, a medical examination revealed a brain aneurysm.

He explains that doctors advised him against competing, forcing him to abandon the fight despite months of preparation.

At the time of the interview, he was awaiting further specialist advice about his condition and what it would mean for his future activities.

Nevertheless, Gareth remains determined to explore new opportunities.

He discusses plans to return to his passion for cooking through livestreams, potentially broadcasting from restaurants around Bradford.
